Girls Talking Circle Facilitator's Training participants come from all over the US
..."one of the most exciting and promising projects I am aware of" --Carol Gilligan, author, In a Different Voice
Daughters Sisters Talking Circles, the female side of Teen Talking Circles, were born in 1993 as part of our research for our first book, Daughters of the Moon, Sisters of the Sun: Young Women and Mentors on the Transition to Womanhood, (New Society Publishers). The book, primarily a compilation of stories and interviews by, for, and about young women, was based on the shared experience of 21 middle and high school aged girls who participated in a two-year circle.
After the release of the book, we were unexpectedly flooded with emails, phone calls and letters from women, mostly, who wanted to know if groups like ours existed in their communities, and if not, then, how to start one. To meet the many requests we received, the Daughters Sisters Project was created and for the past 13 years we have been training women and men to start Talking Circles in their communities.
Since that time, we have trained over 500 adult women. We also help adult women start Women's Circles and GenderTalks. If you don't have a circle in your community, what's stopping you? The rewards of a listening circle are tremendous. Having a "safer than usual space to practice Compassionate Listening(TM), be face to face and share what is on the inside" brings so much love to our lives. Imagine if you had this when you were young...imagine having this today.
